I respect your opinion; however, I cannot agree. Halloween decorations generally have a scary theme. They are artistic in nature. That poster does not seem out of place given the season. I would argue it is creative and well within the spirit of the season. These officers went out of their way to celebrate the season with the community. They are actively welcoming locals by joining in the celebration. I would hate for these officers to decide not to engage in the celebrations next year because appeasing a hyper sensitive group is simply too burdensome. We should be welcoming and celebrating these officers and the precinct for their efforts, given the current climate. And, if they did in fact spend their own money, they should be commended.

Thank you for your feedback. The precinct has been commended for decorating and participating in the Halloween celebration. Victims of domestic violence, violence in general, and those who have been bullied are not a hypersensitive group but one that should be treated with compassion, dignity, and awareness from those who may not have been subjected to this themselves.

To be clear, I completely agree with your statement regarding victims of domestic violence and those who are bullied. My point about hyper-sensitivity was about the interpretation of that poster.

First and foremost it’s a Halloween decoration and everyone has different ways as to how they decorate. Secondly if you didn’t like it, because it obviously seems that you were the only one bothered by it and to top it off went into the precinct for nothing, you should of stayed home or not walked into the precinct until the month of October was over. It’s obvious you have nothing better to do. The fact that the precinct took time out of their busy schedules to decorate says a lot. I am part of this community and really love the fact that they did this. I have 3 kids and every time we walk by the precinct my kids love it. One of the times we walked by the pct and a female officer invited us and other kids in and offered the kids a bag of candy, and as a matter of fact those posters were up and the kids loved the decorations. Thank you 34 pct for actually caring.

Thank you so much for caring enough to comment. First and foremost, I wasn't the only one who didn't find it appropropriate for a police precinct. It's wonderful that the 34th Precinct decorated - that isn't the point. Representations of violence have no place in a police settings where crime victims and their families, including domestic violence victims, can and are often triggered. I've heard from quite a few people online and offline who felt they were inappropriate and that a fresh pair of eyes might open the eyes of others. Glad you and the kiddies received treats. Happy Halloween!

Halloween decorations are scary-spooky in a cartoonish way. Kids costumes: Dracula and such. This poster is not a Halloween decoration. It's a depiction of a violent act. It is frightening. I have no special triggers but my gut contracts when I see this. Please, take it down and give Arlene credit for trying, eloquently and kindly, to not lay blame but to point out the error in using this poster as a Halloween decoration.

Thank you so much, Marcia. Quite a few people have reached out to me in person and online to say that they found the posters in poor taste for a police precinct. Happy that has been taken down.

This is what our world has come to!!! Karen's like you Arlene. You were a guest at the precinct and you sought out a problem. It's a fkin decoration! Then to top it off you use your needing to go to the bathroom to go back and see if it was still hanging up. They don't need to let civilians use a bathroom. However, they were kind enough to let you and you try to jam them up over it. You are a sorry excuse for a "community leader" I can't believe I just read that.

Yes, this is what our world has come to! An Arlene stepped up with fresh eyes to say, hey, this can be triggering to some people. And a cop, maybe even from the 34th, and with a fake name, has determined that I didn't need to use the bathroom, which by the way, is open to the public. If it's that important for you to comment, better get back to work. Or maybe it's time to put in your retirement papers.
